We discuss the Spring 2023 legislative session, each of the bills introduced, and how they could impact the program. Unfortunately, the industry has had to spend most of this session on defense as the legislature has introduced several bills to restrict the industry, rather than introduce anything that could be positive for the industry.

Oversight Committee

We talk about some of the areas where The Oversight Committee has fallen short, as well as, the legislative changes that could impact the committee.

SB 134, will expand the law enforcement presence by adding “one representative of local law enforcement, one member with drug investigation experience, and one school resource officer” to the committee.

HB1132 would require the committee to evaluate and make recommendations to the Legislature and the department regarding “research studies regarding health effects of medical cannabis for patients; and any medical and clinical aspects of the medical cannabis program.” to their duties.

Emmett explains HB134 will ultimately end up just adding more people to the committee who do not want to be on the committee.
